Subject: Snookie

All - We had to put Snookie to sleep this morning. It was so hard for us to do but we know that it had to be done. It would not have been right for us to make her hang on any longer. Her persistence to be with us was what kept her going, (we know because that was Snookie) despite her poor health. She had not eaten for nearly a week and could only drink small amounts of water. Her kidney disease was getting progressively worse.
She had given our family almost 16 years of unending love and devotion while asking for nothing more than to be next to you in return. Yes, she was old and had issues. She was mostly blind, deaf, hobbled by bad legs and hips, had kidney disease, and hacked a little but she never complained or acted like anything bothered her. She was always glad to see you and be with you no matter what you were doing. Even private moments in the bathroom were shared with her because of her persistence to be with you. She had a number of notable traits that we will miss dearly. She sort of had a sign language way about her. There were physical clues as to what she wanted. If you had something that she wanted she would always nod her head towards the floor, that was her signal to give her some. She scratched anything wood when she was hungry and would scratch at the pantry door for treats. She loved to watch squirrels and birds from the deck and was content to sit for hours just watching them. We sometimes regretted teaching her to speak for her dinner because she would bark constantly until she got her dish. She ate anything Dottie was eating and it didn't matter what it was. The only thing she would turn her nose away from was wine, she did like gin though. She was a "people" dog that was for sure. She was generous with cuddling, hugging, snuggling, and kisses. And she had complete trust in us no matter what we did with her or did to her…. she loved us that much and we loved her. I know she had no doubt about that.
Please take a moment to remember her today, we would appreciated that tribute.

Love, Steve, Dot, Lisa, Aaron, and Steve.
